When to Visit Positano, Italy
The best time to visit Positano is in the summertime months, from mid-April to the end of October.
As expected, Positano’s peak tourist season is during the months of June and July. Visitors come from all over to soak up the sun on the gorgeous Amalfi Coast during summer.
If you want to enjoy Positano with fewer crowds, the best time to visit is during the shoulder season, which runs from mid-April through May and mid-September through October.
While the thought of visiting Positano during the winter might sound enchanting, it largely turns into a ghost town beginning November 1. Hotels and restaurants usually close down for the season, so it’s not a good time to visit.
Weather in Positano
You can expect the temperatures from June to August to vary from 87-93°F (30-34°C).
During these months, it typically doesn’t drop below 73°F on a cooler day. If you plan to enjoy the beach and other outdoor activities, this is the perfect time to go.
You can still enjoy outdoor activities during the shoulder season, but the temperatures will be a bit cooler.
Mid-April is the coolest time of the year, just below 70°F (21°C). The temperatures start warming up in May when the average temperature is in the mid-70s throughout the month.
September and October are warmer compared to April and May, with temperatures ranging from the low 80s (about 30°C) in September and then getting down to 70°F (21°C) by the end of October.

Getting Around Positano, Italy
There are a lot of different ways to get around Positano. There are plenty of pedestrian-friendly pathways for you to take a short walk on and enjoy the city’s charm.
However, Positano has steep hills and narrow streets, so be prepared to walk up and down lots and lots of steps.
To get from Positano to some of the other Amalfi Coast towns, I recommend taking the local SITA buses that provide transportation within Positano and neighboring towns along the Amalfi Coast.
Taxis are available, but they are known to be expensive, so be sure to check the fares before getting into a taxi, especially if you’re traveling on a budget.
Renting a scooter is a fun and convenient way to travel within Positano and to surrounding areas. However, the roads are quite windy, so I would only really recommend this if you have experience riding on scooters.

1. Get some fresh air and hike the Path of the Gods.
Hiking the Path of Gods is a must-do if you want to get in a workout (gotta burn that pasta off somehow!) and enjoy the outdoors in Positano.
If you ask any outdoor enthusiast who has hiked this trail, they’ll tell you that the Path of Gods is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world.
When hiking, don’t forget to pause and look around at the amazing views of the Italian coastline, picturesque villages, and surrounding mountains.
The trail is about 5 miles long and can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to complete depending on your pace and how many stops you make.
Be sure to be prepared with plenty of water and snacks for this trail because it has uphill and downhill sections.
If it’s really warm out during your trip, I definitely recommend doing this early in the day to save yourself from the midday heat!

There are plenty of beaches that you can visit. Two of the main attractions are Spiaggia Grande and Spiaggia del Fornillo.
Spiaggia Grande Beach is the most popular beach in Positano. Spiaggia Grande is a large sandy beach that offers views of the colorful villas scattered across the cliffs overlooking the water.
Because this beach has so many visitors, there are plenty of chairs to lounge on and restaurants and bars to enjoy. However, keep in mind you have to rent these chairs for a daily cost that starts at around €10 per person per chair.
If you’re looking to stay away from the crowds, Fornillo Beach is a tranquil alternative.
It’s a smaller beach and is generally quieter than Spiaggia Grande. This beach is easily accessible from the center of Positano and has gorgeous clear waters which are perfect for swimming.
